Shenshen Wu
a native of Tainan, Taiwan in 1943, Shenshen received her earlier education in
Taiwan and completed her high school education in Tokyo, Japan. Later, she
traveled to the United States and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in
Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island in 1967.
Upon her graduation from college, she worked as a research and analytical
chemist for three years with ICI United States, Inc. Her work at ICI mainly
focused on the synthesis of antioxidants for fabrics and carried out analytical
procedures for antioxidants used in fabrics, polyurethane raw materials, and
prepolymers.
Subsequently, Shenshen joined Acushnet Company - Titleist Golf Division located
in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She worked with Titleist for the last 28 years and
finally rose to the position of manager in research and development in 2000.
Since 1987, she not only was the chief chemist who has researched and developed
the product line of polyurethane/polyurea golf ball covers for Titleist, she was
also chiefly responsible for making transition from the R&D laboratory process
to pilot production for the manufacturing of these ball covers.
The scope of her materials research includes thermoplastic polyurethanes and
polyureas and hybrid thereof; thermoset polyurethanes and polyureas and hybrid
thereof; moisture resistant polyurethane and polyurea elastomers with low
moisture vapor transmission rate; light stable polyurethanes and polyureas; as
well as UV stabilizers. Her experiences in analytical work include the use of
thermo analyzers (TGA, TMA, DSC); spectrophotometers (AA, IR, UV); and
chromatographic methods (GC and LC); and the characterization of polyurethane/
polyurea products sold on the market.
On March 1st, 2005 Shenshen retired from services to Titleist Golf Division.
Over 100 patent applications covers Shenshen's research work at Titleist. Of
which, 75 patents were issued.
Shenshen is a member of American Chemical Society
(ACS) and the Polyurethane Manufacturers Association (PMA).
